central highlands
Kenya's Central Highlands is a picturesque region with a diverse landscape consisting of lush jungles, rolling hills and imposing mountains, with Mount Kenya the star of the show. The area is also home to the Kikuyu tribe. There is lots of flora and fauna, and the opportunity to see elephants and lions in a compelling highland environment. Kenyans claim that the area has one of the most perfect climates in the world.
Only 90 minutes drive from Nairobi, and with a skyline dominated by the Aberdare Mountains and Mount Kenya, the Central Highlands are a fertile area of dense forests and waterfalls. The Central Highlands form the eastern wall of the Great Rift Valley and whilst they were traditionally ranch land, the private owners of this vast area have made a concerted effort to conserve it for wildlife.
