Discover the ultimate eco-friendly camps
I was lucky enough to visit two of the Porini camps in Kenya – The Lion Camp and Nairobi Tented Camp. I was immediately blown away by the service, luxury interiors and the food – I have no idea how they manage to serve such delicious meals out in the bush!
What makes it even more impressive is that all Porini camps have an emphasis on being eco-friendly. For some reason with the term ‘eco-friendly’ comes the preconception of compromising on luxury. This is most certainly not the case here.
Wake-up calls with hot coffee and homemade biscuits, three-course meals, hot showers and complimentary luxury eco-friendly toiletries made me feel totally spoilt during my stay at Nairobi Tented Camp. But at all Porini Camps you can relax in style, safe in the knowledge that you are leaving the minimum of carbon footprints and that you are helping to support the local community.
What makes Porini Camps Eco Friendly?
Working with the local community
Their aim is to work closely with communities living alongside national parks and wildlife reserves to help them derive benefits from conserving wildlife species and the indigenous habitat. They do this by earning an income from eco-tourism through setting aside areas of their land as wildlife conservancies and thereby creating wildlife dispersal areas outside the parks, increasing wildlife numbers and species variety, habitat and bio-diversity.
