Immense baobabs, acacias and mixed woodland punctuate the plains, whilst the Tarangire River and shrinking lagoons attract a variety of wildlife including wildebeest, zebras, elephants, elands and oryx. The park also boasts a rich birdlife, including a variety of raptors.
Tarangire offers incredible seasonal viewing opportunities. In the dry season, it is very possible to view elephants, lions, wildebeest, gazelles, zebras and buffalo throughout the park, many of whom are very large in number. Occasionally hyena are spotted in Tarangire, as well as very occasional sightings of leopards, cheetahs and wild dogs.
