Why we chose to Safari with Somak Holidays – Kate & Dave’s story

As much as we love sharing our clients’ stories after their trips, we also love to know what inspired them to book that dream trip with us. We spoke to Kate and Dave who have chosen to book their honeymoon with us, and who will be travelling to Kenya in June for their special safari as well as a relaxing beach break at the coast.

1. What made you decide on Kenya as your honeymoon destination?

I had visited Kenya in 2009 and really loved the experience, so when I married David we wanted to find a honeymoon that excited us both, and our love of animals, nature and photography made it an easy choice to choose Kenya as I wanted to share the excitement of safari drives and the beautiful beaches of Mombasa.

2. How did you hear about Somak Holidays?

We went to our local travel agent and told them what we wanted, and they recommended Somak as they had been dealing with them for a while and found that they were a very professional and caring company who wanted to make dreams come true – so we took their advice and booked straight away.

3. Have you been to any country in Africa before?

I have visited Kenya before about 10 years ago, mainly the Kilimanjaro area and the tip of the Maasai Mara. I loved the culture, the food and the unexpected. David has never been to Africa before and is looking forward to new experiences and all the photo opportunities!

4. What factors were important to you in terms of booking your honeymoon?

We wanted a honeymoon that was of course unforgettable, we are not the type of people to laze around on the beach or by the pool. We are always mixing with nature and animals, we are dog owners and are frequently in the open air. Going on safari was a natural choice for us to make. We are also going to Mombasa beaches for a few days following the safari but no doubt we will try to go on a few excursions there too.

5. How did you choose the itinerary for your honeymoon?

We looked at the itineraries that Somak offered and decided the 7 -day Cheetah Safari was for us as it covered varied landscapes, along with the chance to sample great lodges, meet new people and also see the culture of the Kenya whilst driving between parks. We are in our forties so we want to experience everything – and the price of the safari was very reasonable.
