African Safari Diaries: Sarah’s Kili Safari and relaxing beach break in Kenya
Through our African Safari Diaries, we love sharing our customers’ experiences of their holidays that they booked with us. This week we are delighted to share our chat with Sarah, who visited Kenya with her mum, sister and friend in 2013.
They combined their Safari with a beach break and here is what Sarah told us about her trip.
1. What made you choose Kenya or a Safari for your trip?
It was my mum’s idea to visit Kenya and go on a safari as she had been twice before but wanted to take me, my sister and her friend on this occasion.
2. Was it your first time visiting Africa/going on safari?
Yes, it was my first time visiting Africa as well as going on a safari.
3. How did you hear about Somak Holidays?
It was mentioned on a tv programme and it was also recommended to my mum by a travel agent.
4. What did your itinerary with us involve? How did we put it together for you?
On our first night we stayed in Nairobi, and so we were able to visit the elephant orphanage. Then we went on a safari, which was pre booked for 5 nights. We did ask for our own driver and car which was perfect. Then after the safari we flew to Mombasa to enjoy the beach for 7 nights.
5. Where did you stay whilst on your trip?
Our first night was at the Ole Sereni in Nairobi, which was an amazing hotel, really beautiful and it overlooked a watering hole. We then went on to Amboseli national park where we spent 2 nights at Ol Tukai Lodge, where I actually celebrated my birthday!
This was possibly my favourite lodge and they were so good to me on my birthday. We then went off to Lake Naivasha, where we stayed in a lodge where you could go and look over a hippo pool.
Then we went off to the Masai Mara, which was my favourite place due to the amount of animals we got to see! I’m unsure what lodge we stayed in, but this was the Kili safari back in 2013.
Finally we flew out to Mombasa, where we stayed at the Voyager Beach Resort. It was an amazing hotel with the friendliest staff.
6. Which was your favourite property if more than one?
In Amboseli – the Ol Tukai Lodge.
7. What were your highlights from the trip?
My highlights were spending my birthday in Africa, and of course seeing the big 5 animals.
8. Would you recommend going on safari to other people?
100% – it is one of the best trips I have ever been on.
9. What was your experience with Somak Holidays. Would you book with us again? Was there anything that stood out or you would have changed?
Amazing experience, the service and knowledge of the country was outstanding. We were looked after from the minute we landed. Our driver Peter was everything and more we could have asked for.
He was remarkable, he knew everything, and nothing was too much trouble for him. I even managed to convince him to join us for dinner for my birthday which was perfect for me. We wouldn’t go back without booking through Somak Holidays and we have looked at going back.
10. Any advice or tips for anyone thinking of going on a Safari?
Go!! Don’t ever doubt it and enjoy every minute, it is the best experience you could have. Book with Somak Holidays. I wouldn’t recommend any other company for travelling to Kenya!
