African Safari Diaries – Our Cheetah Safari was loved so much it was booked twice!
Pamela and Tom recently visited Kenya on our Cheetah Safari and kindly shared their experience of their trip with us. We hope you enjoy reading all about it.
1.What made you choose to go on an African Safari? Was this your first time visiting Kenya and going on safari?
We so enjoyed our first safari with Somak we had no reservations about booking the exact same trip again. This was our third visit to Kenya and our second Cheetah safari with Somak.
2. How did you hear about Somak Luxury Travel?
On the internet when we booked our first Kenya safari.
3. Where did you stay whilst on your Safari and what was your favourite property?
We add one night prior to starting the safari and Somak suggested we stay at Eke hotel, on full board. Excellent hotel, food and staff.
Ark Lodge – The water hole at Ark Lodge is a great place to watch the animals, elephant, buffalo, hyenas, black forest hog, various antelope and birds. Again excellent food and friendly and informative staff.
Ashnil Samburu Camp – Luxury tent, great swimming pool, food and staff excellent.
Aberdare Country Club –Accommodation excellent, all rooms very spaced out. View from the country club are second to none. Restaurant friendly, good atmosphere, good choice of food.
Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge – This was our favourite Favourite accommodation. Again excellent accommodation, very spacious room, great balcony, waterbuck, zebra, and giraffe in the evening wondering just yards from our room.
Ashnil Mara Camp – Smashing view of the river, and hippos, from the restaurant and bar area. Again room, food and staff all great.
At the end of our safari we added two nights on, again on the recommendation of Somak
We stayed at Four Points by Sheraton on a bed and breakfast basis. Again all great plus swimming pool on the roof!
4. What were your highlights from your trip?
Every day from day one to the last day was fantastic.
Our guide Tariq was wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble for him, and we felt we had know him for a while. He was courteous and professional at all times, he went the extra mile to ensure we had spectacular game drive.
Seeing three cheetahs, watching the interaction between 3 black forest hog and 12 hyenas, seeing all animals is very special and we will always look back fondly on our trip.
All hotels were great and that is something you appreciate when returning from game drives.
5. Any advice or tips for anyone thinking of going on a Safari?
Don’t be satisfied with watching nature on the TV – go to Kenya and see the real thing!
Its imposable not to be impressed with the game drives, accommodation and people.
On your first safari go to more than one area, different animals are in diffident locations of Kenya, and of course the more species you see the better.
Don t be put off tented accommodation, the permanent tents and just like a 5 star hotel room.
