Spotted on Safari this week!
Our Somak Holidays Safari Driver Guides have a wealth of local experience and knowledge, and know exactly where to go to ensure you get the best safari experience possible and see ample wildlife. For a truly extraordinary and exclusive experience, our guides stay with you throughout your safari, which is something our customers really love. Some of our repeat customers even request the same drivers when they return for another safari!
With a real keen eye and passion for wildlife, our drivers are also keen photographers and often share some of their own photos from their safari adventures with us. We are delighted to start a new series on our Somak Holidays Blog called ‘Spotted on Safari this week” so that we can share some of these fantastic images with you.
This week we are sharing some amazing photos by Joseph Okollah, who has been with Somak Holidays since 1996. He is regularly specifically requested by photographers for his understanding of how to facilitate the best possible shots of Kenya’s majestic wildlife. He also has a Bronze-Level Guide certificate and an excellent customer care record too.
This week he was in Amboseli, which is one of the most popular safari destinations, especially because it offers some spectacular views of the highest free-standing mountain in the world – Mount Kilimanjaro.
The flat and dusty landscape provides good opportunities to see a large variety of wildlife including buffaloes, lions, gazelles, cheetahs, wildebeest, zebras and vast herds of elephants wandering freely, which Joseph was lucky to capture.
Amboseli is world-renowned especially for its elephant population, with numbers reaching over a thousand strong. These majestic creatures, some of the largest in all of Africa, can be found wandering freely across the swamps and plains of Amboseli, so you have a really good chance of seeing them.
The sunset in Amboseli is stunning too and seeing elephants with the fiery sky as a backdrop is just spectacular!
It is currently the wet season, which is actually the best time to visit Amboseli for scenic views of the park and Mount Kilimanjaro. There are great wildlife watching opportunities plus bird watching during the migratory season, so perfect if you are a keen bird watcher.
The views of Kilimanjaro are fantastic during the wet season, as the sky clears of dust after rainfall, casting a radiant glow on the mountain.
If seeing Joseph’s photos of Amboseli has inspired you to want to go on safari, we have some ready-made itineraries such as our 5-night Kili Safari Itinerary and a 6-night Porini Camps Safari.
We have shared one of our client’s experience of the Porini Camps Safari on our blog, which you can read here.
