Celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee With a Safari Fit For Royalty
70 years ago, in 1952 Princess Elizabeth, aged 25, was visiting Kenya with her husband, Prince Philip, when her father, king George VI, died aged 56 on February 6th, meaning she became Queen. They were staying at Treetops (now closed) at the time, which was a popular lodge for wealthy and intrepid visitors and overlooked a watering hole from its position in a giant fig tree.
In its day, there wasn’t really anything like it and some of the Queen’s fond memories of her stay included spotting a large herd of elephants (around 40) at the watering hole along with baboons and waterbuck.
There is no better way to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee than with a safari fit for royalty! Here are some wonderful lodges where you can experience the same thrill she did 70 years ago!
Angama Mara

A private butler will serve delicious Pan-African cuisine in the dining area, on the verandah or in a romantic setting under the stars. Bush breakfasts, sundowners and candlelit dinners offer an unforgettable experience.
