pretoria
Pretoria is known as the Jacaranda City because during October and November the streets are lined with the beautiful purple blossom-bedecked trees. It is a quiet city with many gracious old houses and buildings and fascinating museums.
Although much more sedate than its neighbour, Johannesburg, Pretoria is a beautiful city with plenty to do and see and a large variety of restaurants.
Approximately 55km north east of Johannesburg, Pretoria sits in a transitional belt between the low-lying Bushveld to its North and the Highveld plateau to the South, and enjoys a humid subtropical climate. The city experiences the warm, dry winters of the rest of South Africa, and is sheltered by the surrounding hills of the Magaliesberg range, which create the warm, fertile valley in which the city sits.
