fish river canyon
The world's second largest canyon, arguably Namibia's most spectacular geographical phenomenon, is absolutely magnificent and breathtaking in its immensity. The canyon is in the south of the country at the end of Namibia's longest river - the Fish. A great place for hiking or just standing in awe of nature.
Fish River Canyon is the largest canyon in Africa, and it is the second most visited tourist attraction in Southern Namibia. During the late summer months the canyon floods, however, throughout the rest of the year it is reduced to smaller pools of water, including the hot springs of Ai-Ais resort at the lower end of the canyon. The Fish River Canyon hiking trails are the most popular trails in Southern Africa, drawing visitors from all of the work to face the thrilling descent over steep, rugged terrain. For a more relaxing experience however, visitors can enjoy the hot springs that are rich with sulphur, chloride and fluoride and therefore perfect for healing achy joints after a daring canyon hike.
