The hidden lush, green oasis surrounding Sarova Shaba Game Lodge is where Joy and George Adamson nurtured a lioness named Elsa in the 1950s before setting her free, which is why it has been given the nickname "Born-free land".
The lodge rests on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in the Shaba National Reserve, making it one of the best positioned Sarova lodges for viewing game. The lodge has a pleasant woody aesthetic with timbered staircases and thatched roofing evoking a hypnotic feeling of being one with the wilderness.
The property also includes a free-form pool with a beautiful waterfall filled with natural spring waters. Its Restaurant specialises in bringing the best flavours of organically grown ingredients to your table, and even the bar has river views.
Sarova Shaba Game Lodge is 20 minutes' drive away from Samburu Airport making transfers easy.
There are 80 large, airy and rustic standard rooms, four Executive Suites which include a lounge connected to the spacious bedroom. There is also a beautifully appointed Presidential Suite called the Born Free Suite, named after Joy Adamson's book about Elsa the lioness
