Tips for tipping on your safari holiday

On Safari

Our clients frequently ask us ‘how much should we tip on safari?’ The simple answer is that it’s entirely up to you. It’s not a requirement to tip, but if you are satisfied with the service you receive then we always recommend that you show your appreciation by tipping. The income of many staff working in tourism is significantly boosted by tips, and any tip will always be appreciated.

General tipping tips

  • Tipping should reflect the level of service you have received. If you have received outstanding service from your guide or general camp staff then you may wish to tip generously. Equally however, if you are dissatisfied with the level of service, tipping is not compulsory.
  • The recommended tip for driver guides is approximately USD10-15 per day per guest. For general staff such as bar staff, waiters and housekeeping we recommend tipping USD5-10 per day to be put in the communal tip box and shared between the staff.
  • Tips in USD are generally accepted in Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

We remind you that our tipping tips are just a guideline, and that ultimately, any amount that you are able to tip will be appreciated and will help the local community.
