Somak’s Agents Educational Trip to Incredible India – Lesley’s experience
We recently hosted a fabulous group of travel agents on an educational trip to experience the wonders of India’s iconic “Golden Triangle”, visiting the cities of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, as well as India’s spiritual city of Varanasi.
Lesley Dean, who runs Travel by Lesley and is a homeworker with Your Holiday Booking, shared her experience of the trip with us. She has been working in travel for 30 years and specialise in the Indian Ocean, Caribbean and weddings & honeymoon destinations.
Was this your first time visiting India?
I had visited Goa about 20 years ago but really wanted to see the real India.
What was your itinerary?
We spent two nights in Delhi, one night in Agra, two nights in Jaipur followed by one night in Varanasi.
Where did you stay whilst on your trip and what was your favourite property?
My favourite was the Radisson Blu hotel in Agra. The rooftop pool was amazing with a view of the Taj Mahal. I also liked the location of the Trident hotel in Jaipur which overlooked the lake.
What were your highlights from your trip?
Taj Mahal had to be my top place because I have wanted to visit it for so long, I also loved Jaipur.
Which was your favourite city?
Jaipur.
Do you have any advice or tips for anyone thinking of going to India?
Have an open mind as well as a travel pillow for all the travelling.
Would you recommend India and Somak to your clients?
Totally, it was a fantastic experience!
Alternatively, our 11-night Classical India tour takes you on a journey to see all the highlights of northern India, as featured in The Golden Triangle tour, as well as to the fabulous Ranthambore National Park in search of tigers.
You will also visit Khajuraho, famous for groups of Hindu and Jain temples. These temples are a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for their beautiful and erotic rock carvings.
Your last port of call is Varanasi, regarded as the spiritual capital of India. The city draws pilgrims who bathe in the River Ganges’ sacred waters and perform funeral rites. Along its winding streets are some 2,000 temples, including Kashi Vishwanath, the ‘Golden Temple,’ dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva.
