African Safari Diaries: A wildlife loving couple’s honeymoon in Kenya

Wildlife lover and keen photographer Kyle and his wife chose Kenya as the first stop on their honeymoon, booking an itinerary with us that covered a diverse range of national parks, camps and resorts. He shared his experience and some truly stunning photos with us. We hope you enjoy reading about his trip and seeing his wonderful photos of the incredible wildlife that he saw.

1.  Was this your first time visiting Kenya? What made you decide to visit?

My wife and I decided to visit Kenya as the first stop on our honeymoon. We have a real passion for wildlife and really wanted to see the diverse range of beautiful wildlife in Africa.

2.  How did you choose your itinerary?

Somak Holidays put together a list of places that included a range of national parks, camps and resorts. It was the diversity of each of the regions which appealed to us the most, and the different styles of accommodation on offer.

3.  Where did you stay whilst on your trip and what was your favourite property and place?

We travelled from Nairobi to the Aberdares, Mount Kenya, Samburu, and the Lakes before our final destination in the Masai Mara. Our favourite place would be Ashnil Mara Camp purely because of the location and that it has the look and feel of a tent but with all of the comforts!

Hippos would walk past our tent at night and we could hear an abundance of Africa’s wildlife. It was a place where we could feel close to the animals and at one with nature.

4.   What were the highlights and special memories from your trip.

There were so many! But one that stands out would be the hot air balloon ride we took over the Masai Mara, feeling weightless and seeing the amazing natural landscape beneath us will be something we’ll always remember.

5.   Do you have any advice or tips for anyone thinking of going to Kenya for a holiday?

Buy a good pair of binoculars and a big lens if you’re a photographer!
