African Safari Diaries: Phil’s Kili Safari in Amboseli, Lake Naivasha and the Masai Mara

Phil recently went on our 5-night Kili Safari, which gives an exciting overview of Kenya and her wildlife, covering Amboseli, which is home to an abundance of mammals and over 400 species of birds and where the area is dominated by the stunning spectacle of Mount Kilimanjaro, Lake Naivasha, which has over 450 species of birds that have been recorded in and around this freshwater lake, and finally into the world-famous Masai Mara, one of the world’s most enthralling wildlife theatres.

He shared his experience of his trip with us and some super photos!

1.  Was this your first time visiting Kenya? What made you decide to visit?

It was my first visit to Kenya. After trawling through several brochures and the internet Somak stood out with good reviews and value for money.

2.  How did you choose your itinerary?

I wanted a 5-7-day safari and the Kili Safari seemed to be ideal for a first time visit as it took in more than one Park. The trip was booked with Peter Goord Travel.

 3.  Where did you stay whilst on your trip and what was your favourite property and place?

Our first stop was Amboseli Sopa Lodge, then Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge and last but not least Mara Sopa Lodge. They all had their good parts like their food, service and accommodation but my favourite lodge was Lake Naivasha, as the setting by the lake was really nice.

My favourite reserve was Amboseli as there was such a variety of animals and birds there.

 4.    What were the highlights and special memories from your trip?

Adorable Lion Cubs

Memories… difficult to pick out as there were many, but the family of cheetahs and the elephant march on our first day took a lot of beating. The views from Observation Hill, Amboseli were amazing. Finally the lions at Masai Mara.

5.   Do you have any advice or tips for anyone thinking of going to Kenya for a holiday?
