PALACE ON WHEELS
Sit back, relax and enjoy the remarkable state of Rajasthan from the comfort of one of the world's great trains, the Palace on Wheels. Along the way you will have plenty of opportunities to leave the train and discover some of the wonders of India. Exciting cities full of history, desert forts, elaborate palaces and maybe even some tigers await you.
Day 1 Tuesday Delhi
Met at New Delhi Airport and transferred to the Taj Palace, New Delhi for overnight.
Day 2 Wednesday Palace On Wheels
Delhi - Jaipur
Today you can enjoy some wonderful sightseeing in Old Delhi. Visit Chandni Chowk and take a rickshaw ride. Then the UNESCO listed Humayun's Tomb, plus a visit to Dhobighat - the big open-air laundry. Drive past the Presidential Estate and other government buildings, and take a photo stop at India Gate. Transfer to Safdurjung Railway Station at approximately 1600 hours to board the Palace on Wheels, and depart for Jaipur.

Today you can enjoy some wonderful sightseeing in Old Delhi. Visit Chandni Chowk and take a rickshaw ride. Then the UNESCO listed Humayun's Tomb, plus a visit to Dhobighat - the big open-air laundry. Drive past the Presidential Estate and other government buildings, and take a photo stop at India Gate. Transfer to Safdurjung Railway Station at approximately 1600 hours to board the Palace on Wheels, and depart for Jaipur.

Day 3 Thursday Palace On Wheels
Jaipur - Sawai Madhopur
Breakfast on board the train. The first stop is Jaipur, with a traditional welcome ritual at the Jaipur Railway Station. Leave the train for a tour of the city, starting with the Hawa Mahal, also known as the Palace of Winds, which is a remarkable five storey building along the main street of the old city, with semi-octagonal and delicate honeycombed sandstone windows. Then a visit to Amber Fort. Later, you can enjoy shopping for Jaipur's famous jewellery, handicrafts, carpets, blue pottery and textiles. After lunch at the Palace Hotel, you are off to the City Palace, home of the erstwhile royal family. Across the road from the City Palace is the Jantar Mantar, the largest observatory, built by the Sawai Jai Singh II. Return to the Palace on Wheels where dinner is served on board and depart for your journey to Sawai Madhopur.

Day 4 Friday Palace On Wheels
Sawai Madhopur - Ranthambore - Chittorgarh - Udaipur
Arrive at the railway station of Sawai Madhopur. After breakfast, an early morning jungle safari to the Ranthambore National Park, where the ruins of a 10th century fort are located. This wildlife sanctuary is considered to be the country's best for observing and photographing the tiger. The park, which covers an area of 392 sq km, is also home to hyenas, ratels, jackals, foxes and more than 300 species of birds. Sawai Madhopur is known for its exclusive toys, ethnic ornaments and costumes. Return to the Palace on Wheels and continue your train journey to Chittorgarh. Enjoy a tour to the Chittorgarh Fort. Evening tea and other refreshments at the cafeteria of Chittorgarh Fort accompanied by a beautiful light and sound show, before departing for Udaipur.
Please note that the Ranthambore National Park is closed during the month of September, when guests will be taken to Mansigh Sanctuary.

Day 5 Saturday Palace On Wheels
Udaipur - Jaisalmer
Arrive in the Lake city of Udaipur. After breakfast on board the train, disembark for an excursion of the city. Perhaps the two most beautiful sites of Udaipur are the dream-like marble palaces - the Jag Niwas (Lake Palace) and the Jag Mandir, which appear to rise from the blue waters of Lake Pichola. Enjoy a stately lunch in a heritage hotel. Evening tea accompanied by refreshments onboard Palace on Wheels as your journey takes you to Jaisalmer. Dinner on board.

Day 6 Sunday Palace On Wheels
Jaisalmer to Jodhpur
After breakfast, leave the train in Jaisalmer for a sightseeing tour of the city. Here the yellow sandstone fort is an imposing sight, towering magnificently over the city. Discover the painstakingly latticed havelis or mansions with their grand facades. The Nathmalji-ki-haveli, Patwon-ki-haveli and Salim Singh-ki-haveli are fine examples of the stone carver's skill. Shop for fine pattu shawls, mirror work, embroidered articles, wooden boxes, trinkets, silver jewellery and curios. After lunch on board the train, enjoy a camel ride followed by tea and refreshments in the sand dunes of Jaisalmer. Dinner in the sand dunes is accompanied by a colourful cultural programme. Return to the train for onward journey to Jodhpur.

Day 7 Monday Palace On Wheels
Jodhpur - Bharatpur
Arrive at Jodhpur Railway Station. Visit the city's attractions, the rock-solid Mehrangarh Fort, the grand palaces within - Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana are impressive examples of architectural excellence. Near the fort complex lies Jaswant Thada and a group of royal cenotaphs made of white marble. Lunch at a deluxe hotel in Jodhpur. Return to the train for dinner and onwards to Bharatpur.

Day 8 Tuesday Palace On Wheels
Bharatpur - Agra - Delhi
Arrive at Bharatpur. After breakfast, a visit to the world-famous bird sanctuary, Keoladeo Ghana National Park, the nesting place of thousands of egrets, Siberian cranes, migratory water fowl and other species of birds. Board the train again and arrive at the Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world. This pristine monument of undying love was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal. Also visit Agra Fort and see other monuments and tombs about town. Agra is known for its splendid marble inlay work like the Pietra Dura work on the Taj, leather goods and jewellery. Enjoy dinner on board as the train departs for Delhi.

Arrive at Bharatpur.
