15 www.somak.co.uk Pench National Park Pench National Park is located in the Seoni and Chhindwara districts of Madhya Pradesh, and derives its name from the Pench River that flows from north to south through the park. Declared a national park in 1975 and comprising more than 299km 2 , Pench consists largely of dry deciduous teak forests and is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna including approximately 40 Bengal tigers, and more than 39 species of mammals, 13 species of reptiles and 3 species of amphibians. Satpura National Park Established in 1981, Satupura National Park is located in the Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh. Visitors to this vast and varied reserve are drawn in by the biodiversity – with a rich population of animals including tigers, leopards and Indian gaur, hidden amongst narrow gorges, sandstone peaks and dense forest.
