Game Parks of India Ranthambhore National Park Once the hunting ground of the Maharajah of Jaipur, Ranthambhore was declared a game sanctuary in 1955, and in 1980 it became a national park. Ranthambhore is famous for its Bengal tigers, and offers some of the best opportunities to see these predators in their natural jungle habitat. Ranthambhore boasts a rich mixture of other fauna including Indian leopards, wild boar, striped hyena and many more. Bandhavgarh National Park Located in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh, Bandhavgarh National Park offers a unique combination of wildlife, landscape and sightseeing. Visitors can experience rugged hillsides, marshland and forests, all of which attract more than 250 species of birds as well as tigers and a large breeding population of leopards. Bandhavgarh was declared a national park in 1968 and is home to more than 37 species of mammals. Kanha National Park Kanha National Park is the largest national park of Madhya Pradesh. It is noted for inspiring Kipling to write “The Jungle Book”, and its grassy plains and dense woodland is home to a significant population of Bengal tigers, Indian leopards, sloth bears and barasingha as well as more than 200 species of birds. India’s Game Parks offer some of the most unique wildlife experiences in the world – not least of which is the opportunity to see the country’s most regal creature – the tiger. Whilst the safari experience in India is hugely different to the plains of Africa, with the Government retaining tight control over all of India’s national parks, a safari in India promises to be a unique and memorable experience amongst some of nature’s finest. The best time of year to explore these vast and exciting reserves is from October – March.
