Met on arrival and driven to Chencha to visit the Dorze people, known for their weaving culture which is reflected in their beautiful cotton clothes, fences, and beehive-shaped bamboo huts. Overnight: Paradise Lodge. (d) Day 2: Drive to Jinka After breakfast, drive to Mago National Park and visit the Mursi tribe, who are renowned for their striking facial piercings. Upon reaching maturity, women have their lower lips slit and circular disks inserted. In the afternoon, if time allows, you will visit Ari village to experience their culture and unique way of life, demonstrated by members of the village. Overnight: Eco Omo Lodge or Jinka Resort. (b,l,d) Day 3: Drive to Arba Minch and fly back to Addis Ababa Depart after breakfast for Arba Minch to fly back to Addis Ababa. (b,l) From: £1075 per person Mini Excursions from Addis Ababa Overnight Lalibela Day 1: Lalibela Internal flight to Lalibela. Met on arrival and transferred to the town of Lalibela. Spend the day visiting the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela including the cross- shaped St. George’s Cathedral. There are no fewer than 200 churches in the Lasta region of Lalibela, some hidden in enormous caves. They are often referred to as the ‘Eighth Wonder of the World’. Overnight: Maribela Hotel or similar. (l,d) Day 2: Fly back to Addis Ababa After breakfast, visit more rock-hewn churches in Lalibela. Then transfer to the airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa. (b) From: £455 per person Overnight Simien Mountains and Gondar Day 1: Gondar and drive to Simien Mountains NP Internal flight to Gondar. Met on arrival and transferred to Simien Mountains NP. Spend the day exploring the pinnacles, valleys, vistas, and wildlife in this stunning region, especially the Gelada baboons that reside here amidst the local pasture lands. Overnight: Simien Lodge or Limalimo Lodge. (l,d) Day 2: Fly back to Addis Ababa After breakfast, drive back to Gondar and make a short visit to the Royal Enclosure. This fortress, surrounded by a 300-foot-long wall, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The oldest and most impressive structure in the compound is the two-storey palace of Emperor Fasilides, built with solid basalt stones. After lunch, transfer to the airport and take a late afternoon flight back to Addis Ababa. (b,l) From: £665 per person 2 nights Bale Mountains and the Rift Valley Lakes Day 1: Drive to Bale Mountains An early morning drive to Bale Mountains National Park, visiting the Rift valley region. En route stop at Dinsho, where you can spot the mountain nyala, Menelik bushbuck, warthogs, and different birds like the Abyssinian catbird and Abyssinian long-eared owl. You will then cross the Sanetti Plateau to search for the endemic Ethiopian wolf, and then drive to Harenna Forest. Overnight: Bale Mountain Lodge. (l,d) Day 2: Bale Mountains Early departure to ascend the Bale massif onto the Sanetti Plateau, home to seven globally threatened species and most of Ethiopia’s Highland biome species. You’ll have the opportunity to see the Ethiopian or Simien wolf, crowned as “the world’s rarest canid.” Watching these animals is one of Africa’s greatest wildlife experiences. Overnight: Bale Mountain Lodge. (b,l,d) Day 3: Drive back to Addis Ababa After breakfast take a short walk through Harenna Forest and then drive to Addis Ababa via Nazret (Adama).
