Somak ET Kenya Brochure
48 Somak Holidays We flew into Durban, where we started our trip, followed by KwaZulu-Natal Battlefields, and our third and final destination – Cape Town. To see and experience everything the city had to offer we packed as many excursions as possible into the time we had. We started with the Cape Peninsula Tour and had a lovely time. We stopped by Hout Bay and watched the seals, visited the Cape of Good Hope using the impressive funicular, and saw the world-famous African penguins at Boulders Beach. Going up Table Mountain and being able to explore the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront were our final city highlights. A day trip to Franschhoek was a must, where we visited a quaint little vineyard for a tour and tasting. Here you can do a wine tram as well as try coffee in a cone, which is something very unique and different. It’s just over an hour from Cape Town but the laid-back valleys feel a world away. Shark diving, abseiling Table Mountain, and horse riding on the beach were all a little too adventurous for us but we were all excited to try some of Cape Town’s renowned food – in particular The Gold Restaurant. We arrived at 6.30pm to take part in some traditional drum playing. It was great fun and such a good experience for people of all ages. At 7pm the meal began. It was an extravaganza of many small courses, each from a different country in Africa and such a good way to try new dishes. During and after the meal, African dancers and performers took to the stage to entertain us. We had in our group a young lady who was soon to be married. The group had purchased her a veil and sash to make the evening into a mini ‘hen do’ for her and she was taken up on stage to join in. It was a very good all round evening finishing at around 10pm, after which we headed off again to the V&A Waterfront for a few drinks and a dance. Our time in Cape Town was made special by a fun-filled itinerary and a brilliant group. The ‘Rainbow Nation’ is such an amazing destination that’s so full of experiences and adventures that you can only hope to scratch the surface with just one visit, but one way to really get to know South Africa is to take advantage of the outstanding range of excursions on offer. South Africa fam trip Somak’s Nishma and Parita enjoyed a South African ‘fam trip’ which was a whirlwind adventure of exciting experiences, but the crown jewel was Cape Town and its surrounding marvels. To give you an idea of the variety and excitement on offer they’ve written up their story.
