Somak ET Kenya Brochure

27 www.somak.co.uk Somak’s African experiences With 50 years of expertise on the African continent, it’s no surprise that we have a long list of excursions to recommend. For those looking to mix up their big game adventure, adding hot-air balloon, walking or boating safaris – or even a Great Ape trek – makes for a fresh experience and a new perspective. For some, a week on the beaches of the Indian Ocean is incomplete without a dhow sunset cruise or a dolphin tour. Foodies might make time in Nairobi to visit Carnivore Restaurant or the Gold Restaurant in Cape Town. For culture- vultures, maybe visiting a Samburu village, Robben Island or wandering the ancient winding alleys of Stone Town is what will light up a holiday. We know that different guests have different needs, and we love to tailor your adventures to suit you perfectly. Whatever your interests, just ask! The Tanzanian skyline Our group of agents had never been on safari before, and Amboseli’s huge elephant herds were a majestic first experience. The sight of an enormous bull crossing the track in front of us with Mount Kilimanjaro’s snowy peak looming above was truly breathtaking and something none of us will ever forget. Giving a little back Interacting with the kids at Kalela Primary School, Voi, and seeing the harsh conditions they endure with such charm and enthusiasm was powerfully moving. We felt like we’d seen a completely different yet equally beautiful side to this wonderful country and took the opportunity to donate toward the school. Taking the train The new SGR Madaraka Express train carries holiday-makers from Nairobi to the coast in under five hours. Sweeping through an immaculate station and impeccable security, it was fantastic to experience Kenya’s newest piece of infrastructure; the precision, efficiency and comfort of the operation was impressive. Social Enterprise We took an eye-opening tour of the colourful Kazuri Bead factory & shop, where the disadvantaged – particularly female victims of domestic abuse – are given employment and support. We also visited Ocean Sole’s ingenious ‘upcycling’ project for old flip-flops, buying a few colourful model elephants! Tsavo East river walk Teaming up with Kenya Wildlife Service officers fresh off an anti-poaching stakeout, we hiked along the rocky banks of the Galana River spotting hippos and animal tracks. The absolute wilderness of the park, and the dramatic stories of the armed KWS men made this an adventure to remember. Kalela Primary School Mount Kilimanjaro Madaraka Express Ocean Sole
