Somak ET Kenya Brochure
26 Somak Holidays Feeding the giraffes Giraffe Manor is on many a bucket list, and rightly so, but the next best thing is a visit to Nairobi’s Giraffe Centre where we hand fed the towering yet graceful giants. The viewing platform was at head height for the animals, giving us a real face-to- face experience. Elephant orphanage The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s Elephant Orphanage shelters calves whose mothers were the victims of poaching. At feeding time (1100- 1200hrs), we watched from just feet away, entranced, as a dozen baby elephants rushed to their milk-wielding handlers to feed and play. Nairobi’s restaurants The Carnivore restaurant’s Masai theme and exotic meat range are famous. Nowhere will you find a better all- you-can-eat experience. For a more traditional Kenyan cuisine, we loved the buzz and excitement of Nyama Mama in Westlands. The live music was fantastic. Crescent Island walking Accessible only by boat, this beautiful island is located in the midst of hippo-infested Lake Naivasha. An idyllic viewpoint at the island's summit overlooks a mix of trees and light vegetation. We walked freely within a stone's throw of ruminating wildebeest, gazelles, giraffes and zebras. Into the African Sky The Serengeti and Masai Mara offer some of the most sought-after ballooning experiences in the world. We were lucky enough to soar high over the game-studded savannah; the enormity and rugged nature of Africa’s wilderness was beautiful. Skilled pilots navigate currents in the air over the course of a forty-minute flight. Highlights from our Kenyan Safari Amanda and Tolly recently spent eight days zigzagging across the country on a wonderful safari itinerary, so we asked them to share a few of their favourite moments from the trip.
