www.somak.co.uk 135 The Victoria Falls is one of the greatest attractions in Africa and one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world. It is located on the Zambezi River and defines the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. The Falls is more than a kilometre in length and a height of more than hundred metres. The thundering noise can be heard from a distance away and is often referred to as the waterfall Mosi-o-Tunya “the smoke that thunders”. Victoria Falls Town is on the Zimbabwe side, while Livingstone Town is on the Zambia side. Victoria Falls Victoria Falls experiences There is a wide range of activities available in and around the falls. We’ve put together a selection of the best day tours on offer. Flight of Angels – 12-minute helicopter ride over the Falls An aerial experience where you can take in the splendour of the majestic Victoria Falls from the air, giving a perfect overview of the size and magnitude of this colossal testament to the power of nature. From £125 per person Canopy Zip Lining Tour An exhilarating 2-hour zip-lining experience over the Zambezi River which offers amazing views of the Zambezi Rapids, the legendary Victoria Falls Bridge, and the tower of natural spray from the Falls. There are nine zip lines of varying length and a cable bridge walkway. From £55 per person Zambezi Sunset Cruise (approximately 2 hours) The Zambezi Sunset Cruise is a superb way to relax and enjoy the beauty of the Zambezi River. There are ample photo opportunities at sunset. The cruise includes snacks and selected drinks. There is also an option to do a dinner cruise. From £50 per person. Tour of Victoria Falls (approximately 2 hours) A guided tour around the Falls, explaining the history of their discovery, and the massive forces and water volume in action. There are also opportunities to visit the open-air market, where you can shop for curios. From £50 per person The Royal Livingstone Express Dinner Wednesday and Saturday This luxury train offers guests the ultimate fine dining experience in beautiful restored steam locos and carriages. From November to March (4pm to 9.30pm) the train runs on the Victoria Falls Bridge route, stopping on the bridge for approximately 20 minutes, allowing guests to disembark. Game, such as elephant and antelope, are often spotted en route to the border post. A five course set dinner will be served at the Palm Grove siding before heading back. From April to October (3.30pm to 9pm) the train travels through the heart of the Zambezi River Valley, where guests may experience amazing sunsets while travelling through the Mosi-Oa-Tunya Game Park (wildlife sightings not guaranteed). The train stops for a five course set dinner on the return journey to Livingstone.
