selous
Relatively untouched, Selous is said to be the largest game reserve in Africa and to contain the world's largest concentration of elephants. There are huge numbers of buffaloes, crocodiles and hippos as well as relatively high numbers of lions and rhinos. The best time to travel to Selous is considered to be July to March. Generally reached by air.
Selous offers some exceptional game viewing opportunities. The cluster of lakes along the main safari circuit give visitors the chance to see giraffes, waterbuck, impala and zebras as they gather to drink. There are great chances to see lions as they stalk their prey throughout the reserve, and you might even spot the occasional elephant roaming the park. Other animals include hippos, buffalo, wildebeest, and the occasional hyena. There are very occasional sightings of the black rhino at Selous, as well as rare sightings of the African wild dog, leopards and cheetahs.
